Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide. A coenzyme, derived from the vitamin niacin, that accepts electrons and hydrogen atoms in a number of oxidation-reduction reactions, particularly in the electron transport chain. The reduced form, NADH, is generated in many energy-yielding oxidation reactions, including the beta-oxidation of fatty acids.
