Glomerular filtration rate. The rate (ml/s or ml/min) at which urine is filtered through the renal glomeruli (the network of blood capillaries that form the primary site of filtration of waste products from the bloodstream). The glomerular filtration rate is usually determined by the urinary excretion of creatinine and is used as a measure of kidney function. See also creatinine clearance.
Normal values are indicated as follows:
Male: 97 to 137 ml/min.
Female: 88 to 128 ml/min.
Note: ml/min. = milliliters per minute
