DIT PRINT

Diet-induced thermogenesis. Energy required for the assimilation and storage of nutrients (whether given orally or parenterally). It varies with type of supplied diet; e.g. it is higher for proteins and lower for fat. On a mixed balanced diet it amounts to approx. 10% of BEE. It should rather be called NIT - nutrient-induced thermogenesis to include all ways of nutrient supply.
