A hormone secreted by the medulla of the adrenal glands. Also called epinephrine in the US. Adrenaline causes an increase in blood pressure and heart rate and relaxation of the longitudinal muscles of the alimentary tract. It also has a prominent metabolic role, promoting glycogenolysis and lipolysis. See also NORADRENALINE.
